Where is painshill park

We have taken your comments on board about the lighting and the band. Based on feedback we have illuminated the Gothic Tower and all three of our bridges within the Landscape. The band have continually added Christmas songs to their set list to give a festive feel and have received very positive feedback throughout the event. Sarah C 2 contributions. After hearing excellent reviews from last years, I was very disappointed with this years experience.

For the price I would have expected a lot more. The illuminations were poor with most of the walk in darkness. Then the Christmas village at the end was little more than a fire pit, band and a small food outlet.

Then all children see Santa together. We simply could not carry on as we had in previous years. However we are looking at how we can improve this for future evenings. We did not try to make out the village was any more than it it which is somewhere to have a something to eat and drink at the end of your walk and to enjoy the band.

We did not market it as a Christmas village but simply something to call the area on our site map. Best wishes Paul - Director of Painshill. BackinBracknell Bracknell, UK 1, contributions. Interesting garden, poor reception staff. We've been taking advantage of the Gardener's World 2 for 1 offer this year. We decided to visit Painshill as we hadn't heard of it before.

On arrival there was no hello or welcome from any of the reception staff behind the desk. One of them took the 2 for 1 card and proceeded to scrutinize it intently before accepting it reluctantly. She gave the impression that we were trying to get something we were not entitled to and we felt her manner was quite rude. Perhaps she didn't know they were participating in the offer? For the sake of an extra 80p we didn't bother questioning it as we didn't want any unpleasantness.

However staff need to be aware that gift aid is voluntary and if visitors say no they should only be charged the standard price! She handed us a map, then turned away and that was it!

We were not asked if we'd been before or given any information about the garden or told closing times for the Grotto and the Tower etc. These close early 3pm or 3. We were put off by the poor start but fortunately things improved once we got in the park. The follies are an eclectic mixture and there are good views around the lake. Paths are good and well surfaced so no mud. Most of the structures in the park are not the originals but have been recreated. It's a work in progress but they are doing a good job of the restoration.

The tower and the working waterwheel are well worth seeing and the absolute highlight is definitely the huge Grotto with thousands of crystals. It's a shame that the reception staff had the worst customer service skills of all the staff that we came across during our visit.

First impressions were not good at all and these count for a lot! The two guides at the Grotto one at the entrance and one in the main chamber were both friendly and enthusiastic, explaining the history of it and pointing out the features. Although interesting, had we paid the full price for entry we would have felt it was a bit steep.

We might come back occasionally, but probably only if there was another offer on. We noticed that there weren't many visitors considering it was a Sunday afternoon.

Obviously it's competing with other nearby attractions like Wisley and Claremont Gardens, but perhaps if there was a more friendly welcome and lower prices it would attract more people in the first place and those that come would be encouraged to return! Lows: Waited ages behind two others to pay to get in..

The grotto.. On entering the main chamber I remarked to her colleague that her manners needed improving - at his point an elderly couple rushed over to back me up - saying they were also very upset as it seems she had tried to ridicule them also..

Not a great staff ethos here.. Highs: Whilst baron of any real flora or forna and littered with weird buildings and structures, it has a nice charm.

Worthy of a visit every few years if you are local and bored and like to be verbally abused. Dear C C Many thanks for your feedback and comments about Painshill.

Not all of the landscape is wheelchair accessible but you can certainly see a good part of the park from good surfaces.

You can even hire a wheelchair free of charge on a first come, first served basis. If you can visit, do: it is well worth it! Patrisha G. Hi, is the grotto open Monday to Friday? Is it open tomorrow monday 14 may ?
